Merton Crossroads is an independent voluntary organisation and is affiliated to the national Crossroads Caring for Carers scheme. The scheme was established in 1974 as a result of a carer's story featured in the original Crossroads TV soap. The programme's producers, ATV, donated £10,000 to set up the first Crossroads scheme in Rugby.

Today, through over 200 throughout England and Wales schemes, Crossroads supports over 28,600 carers each year by offering in excess of 3.7 million care hours.

Merton Crossroads began in a small way on 23 September 1986. Today it provides over 15,000 hours of care annually to more than 160 families.
